The differences between hot rolled and cold rolled steel
Customers often ask us about the differences between hot rolled steel and cold rolled steel. Both hot rolled steel and cold rolled steel start out in essentially the same way and both can have the same grades and specifications. But cold rolled steel undergoes additional processing steps, resulting in improved properties that can be exploited for different applications. Each type of steel has its advantages and disadvantages and costs for the two types of steel are also different.

First, about the surface quality and thickness. The cold-rolled steel adopts cold-rolled processing,so the surface is smooth and with high gloss. The hot plate is treated with hot rolled surface with scale, and the thickness of the plate has lower devation .The surface of the hot rolled steel that is not electroplated is dark brown, and the surface of the non-plated cold plate is gray. After plating, it can be distinguished from the smoothness of the surface, and the smoothness of the cold-rolled steel is higher than that of the hot-rolled steel. The thickness of the coil rolled by cold rolling can be rech 0.001mm,as the same time ,the thickness rolled by hot rolling only can be reach 0.78mm. So the thickness of the cold rolled steel can be thinner.Second, about the toughness. The toughness and surface flatness of the hot rolled steel are poor and the price is low.But the cold rolled steel has good stretchability and toughness,so the pric is relatively expensive.Third, about the way of rolling. Rolling is divided into cold rolling and hot rolling, and the recrystallization temperature is used as a distinguishing point.Cold rolling is generally used to produce strips with high rolling speed. The temperature of hot rolling is similar to the temperature of forging.

Due to the different characteristics of cold rolled steel and hot rolled steel, their corresponding application fields are also different. Cold rolled steel is used in automobiles, refrigerators, washing machines and other home appliances, as well as industrial equipment and various building materials.Hot rolled steel is used in Steel Framework, Structure, Motor Vehicle Components and frameworks, piles, heavy equipment components, common fabrication and so on.
