History of hot rolling steel coil production line

The first continuous (tandem) rolling coil production line was born in US in 1925. This is the first hot continuous rolling coil mill in the world.From this production line, the hot rolled coil production technology has three phases.

1. Before 1960s. There are around 70 sets hot rolled steel coil production line all over the world, most are in US and Canada. Such hot rolled coil lines are in lower rolling speed, lower production capacity and low automatic. The production speed is around 10m/s.

2. From 1961, The hot rolled coil production move to the second phase, the rolling speed have a twice speed than before, and steel coils quality has a obviously improvement, the production line also is more automative.

3. After 1970s, the coil hot rolling technology reach a new phase, higher production speed, higher capacity and efficiency, more automative, more computer control, high productivity and quality assurance.

Nowadays, hot rolled coil and sheet production is more than half of the steel capacity, more and more modern technologies are applied in the hot rolled coil production mills.
