Cold rolling of steel began in Germany in the mid-19th century, only 20--25mm wide cold rolled strip steel could be produced in that time.The 25 mm cold rolled strip mill was established in the United States in 1859, and a low carbon steel
strip with a width of 150mm was produced in 1887.After 1880, the
production of cold rolled steel strip developed rapidly in Germany and
the United States. The width of the product expanded continuously. And
the ancillary equipments, such as shear, straightening, leveling and
heat treatment equipment, was gradually established. The product quality
also improved.
Cold rolled coil (strip) is developed on the basis of hot rolled strip.The
first cold rolled strip steel was rolled in the United States as early
as 1920, and it soon passed from single irreversible rolling to single
reversible rolling.1926 four stand cold tandem mill was built in amco
butler plant.The Soviet union started cold rolling production in the
mid-1930s. The first cold rolling workshop was built in the ilyich
metallurgical plant.In 1938, the company started to install the
three-stand 1680mm 680mm reversible cold rolling mill imported from
abroad, producing steel plates with thickness of 0.5~ 2.5mm and width of
1500mm.Later, in order to meet the needs of the automotive industry,
the factory set up a 218 mm reversible cold mill.In 1951, the Soviet
union built a set of 2030mm continuous five-stand cold rolling mill with
an annual output of 2.5 million tons, which was installed in xinli
petzk.In 1938, Japan installed the first reversible cold rolling mill at
the panasonic plant of toyo steel plate to start the production of cold
rolled sheet.In 1940, the first set of four 1420 mm tandem cold mill
was established in Nippon steel plant.
The cold rolled steel production line began in 1960 in China. First,the 1700 mm frame reversing mill was
established, and then established the 1200 mm single reversing cold
rolling mill, partial eight MKW1400 mm mill twenty high cold rolling
mill, 1150 mm and 1250 mm HC standalone reversing cold rolling mill,
etc., In the 70 s ,China first set of 1700 mm continuous five-stand cold
rolling mill. In the 1988, 2030 five-stand continuous cold rolling mill
was established. At present, there are 18 wide strip mills and 418
narrow strip mills in China.
